2026 Horace Fleming Scholarship Recipients

  • Horace Fleming Field 4652 Nebraska Avenue Northwest Washington, DC, 20016 United States (map)

The SIXTH annual recipients of the Horace Fleming Scholarship are MR. landon green and MS. claire yoder. These awards were presented on MAY 28, 2026 during the SPRING AthleticS Award CEREMONY.

The Horace Fleming Scholarship was created to honor more than talent alone. It exists to recognize student-athletes who lead with character, serve their communities, persevere through challenges, and inspire the people around them both in and out of competition. This May, for the very first time, we presented this scholarship to two recipients because the strength of their applications made one choice simply impossible.

landon

Meet Landon Green — a young man who proved that leadership doesn’t always have to be loud to leave a lasting impact. He is the kind of student-athlete every school hopes for: driven, humble, resilient, and deeply respected by his peers. On the football field, he led with quiet confidence and determination. In the classroom, he maintained an impressive 4.2 GPA while challenging himself with multiple dual enrollment courses.

But what truly makes Landon special to his family and teams is the way he showed up for others. Whether mentoring classmates, supporting teammates, or leading by example, he brought integrity, curiosity, and heart into every space he entered. Landon’s discipline, character, and commitment to growth already made a powerful impact, and we believe this is only the beginning.

Congratulations and we will be rooting for your success at North Carolina A&T!

Claire

Meet Claire Yoder — an extraordinary student, leader, swimmer, mathematician, engineer-in-the-making, and apparently…the undisputed champion of themed swim-meet fashion.

Claire is the kind of student who makes excellence look effortless. She earned a 5 on the AP Calculus exam, tutored fellow students simply because she loves helping people learn, and somehow still found time to captain the Jackson-Reed Swim Team with energy, kindness, and enough school spirit to wear a tiger onesie in public with confidence. A three-time team captain, DCIAA MVP, and DCIAA Female Senior of the Year for swimming, Claire led with both brilliance and heart. Whether she was mentoring teammates, rebuilding community after the pandemic, or pursuing her passion for aviation and engineering, she lifted everyone around her. To her coaches, peers and educators, Claire’s curiosity, joy, leadership, and generosity makes her truly unforgettable.

Join us in congratulating Claire as she heads to Rochester —we cannot wait to see how high she soars!
