The FIFTH annual recipient of the Horace Fleming Scholarship is MR. ARRINGTON WARD JR. This award was presented on MAY 29, 2025 during the SPRING AthleticS Award CEREMONY.

The Horace Fleming Scholarship is an award that honors not only academic achievement but resilience and leadership. The 2025 recipient checks every one of those boxes—and then some. Arrington Ward Jr. is a senior at Jackson-Reed High School, where he’s known for being a powerhouse both in the classroom and on the football field. He maintained a stellar GPA while balancing AP courses and a community service resume that would make most adults feel like they need to step it up.

He’s headed to college to study Business Administration at North Carolina A&T, with plans to one day open his own food establishment. This is someone who sees food not just as fuel—but as connection, culture, and love. Like Coach Fleming, Arrington is a leader, a doer, and someone who shows up—for his team, his school, and his community. He embodies the spirit of this scholarship.
